The Antidote to Worry
Peace seems elusive right now.
The endless looping-messages of everything bad and nothing good, fills the time slots of the bombardment screaming at us through every avenue possible.
Except one. The manuscript for the workings of our lives.
Trusted words and eternal promises scrolled across gold-leafed pages, touched by God’s own hands, openly beg for us to jump in and hold on with every ounce of our being—to garner just enough strength to get us through the next minute. That’s what we're doing, right friends? Just trying to get through the next minute. To push the last one behind us, and move forward into the next. Hoping and praying that the seconds which stand before us become ticks of time that won’t take another piece of our hearts. We just want to breathe without a thought. To move without a stumble. To live without a fear.
And our Precious Jesus meets us in that spot. He always does. He always does!
A turn of the pages finds Words that bring comfort to our souls. They bring balm to a chaffed heart and solace to a weary mind; Another promise kept, from another promise given.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust God; trust also in me.” John 14:1
Trust.
A place we have to be in order to take the words of the giver to heart. Without it, emptiness fills the space between the characters and the punctuations. Without it, a thousand manuscripts could be written, but none would matter.
With that trust, peace need not be elusive.
For it is not the description of a feeling we need, but the assurance of the One who offers it. Trust overrides the worry. Trust overrides the fear. Trust ensures the Message is true.
Friends…sisters…there is an antidote to our fears and worries! It is lying between the pages of a book waiting to be opened. Run to it with abandonment! Peel back the covers. Find the Words that are calling your souls to comfort! Dive deep into the pages of His promises to carry you through the troubles. They will not disappoint. They are gift-given just for you. For these times. For these reasons. For the needs of your heart.
Jesus is waiting for you there. Peace is waiting for you there.
“When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you. I praise God for what he has promised. I trust in God, so why should I be afraid.” Psalm 56:3-4
