There is nothing like walking through a summer garden, in the early morning hours of the day. That short window of time before the day gets crowded and the tasks begin. To stroll amongst the greenery—touching and inspecting the gentle growths that have taken shape. To see the drops of dew on the leaves. To see the blossoms as they’re kissed by the early sun when they stretch from a night’s sleep. To breathe in the sweet aromas of all the earth is gifting to you.
Mornings in a garden have a serenity all to themselves.
It is the newness of the day, which gives the gift—garden or not.
It's the reflection of the hardness from the day before, but the hope in a gentleness for the day ahead.
New life, new beginnings, new growth.
And I can’t help but think of God’s promise for the same of our lives. The reminder that each day, He will give new gifts, new mercies, new peace in the midst of so much that is not:
“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for Him.” Lam 3:22-24
What a joy we have that our precious Savior gives us our portion; for what we need, when we need it!
Every morning we get a new gift. A precious gift from God, that He will provide. His portions are what await us when we awake. Just enough for the day. Just enough to get through the whatevers. Just enough to face what needs facing. Everyday we can count on this, and be assured of this.
We need not face our days with fear or dread, friends! On the contrary—when we open our eyes, we are given mercy, grace, and strength through the One who ensures we have what we need for the day. It is up to us to meet Him in the places of connection and accept the gift He gives.
Dear ones, I can’t encourage you enough—before your days begin, take a walk with God in a place of quietness. Give yourself moments of peace in the morning to let God’s verse pour into your soul. Let His portions be those promises that start your day. Let them seep in and permeate over all your juggled thoughts, so much so, that the very newness of the day will spring forth abundant hope.
In that hope, and in the new day, remember always:
God’s portions are endless.
His compassion will never fail.
His love will never cease.
